Sputnik beads were created to commemorate the launch of the Sputnik satellite by Russians. They are the only bead of significance created in the 20th century. Eye beads are worn for good luck and to protect the wearer from evil. They are accented with sapphires to complement the blue Sputnik beads. Accented with 14⁄20 gold-fill round beads with lever-back ear clips.

Lampwork Sputniks are torch-worked, artisan glass beads with bumpy, organic textures and multi-colored dots. Color-lined Sputnik Mixes are transparent glass beads with a contrasting color lining running around the center hole to create an inner glow, and they are made in many different colors.
