Iolite and Pearl Necklace and Earrings

Iolite shows different colors under polarized light or when viewed from different angles. This property is called pleochroism, a Greek word meaning "two-colored rock".
The name "iolite" comes from the Greek word for violet. It is also called "Viking Compass" because it polarizes light that shines through it, useful in determining the direction of the sun on overcast days; the Vikings used it for this purpose.
